Obituary for Norma Jean Barr

Norma Barr, 92, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away Sunday March 25, 2018. She was born July 28, 1925 in Bowling Green to Elmer and Edith (Bachman) Bowers. She married Ross Barr September 13, 1945 and he preceded her in death in 1998.

Norma was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bowling Green. She was a founding member of the Wood County Hospital Guild, where she volunteered for many years formerly serving as president. She was proud of introducing the Lifeline Program at Wood County Hospital which is still running today under the direction of her daughter Laurie Newlove. She and her husband Ross were big supporters of Falcon Athletics. They were the first members of the BGSU Falcon Club and loved attending as many football, basketball and hockey games as they could.

Norma was chosen by the Bowling Green Chamber of Commerce as the Female Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 1990. She participated in many local Bridge clubs, was a member of Alpha Phi, Sorosis and the Wood County Republican Party Committee. Her greatest joy in life came from the time she spent with her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter Laurie (Dick) Newlove of Bowling Green, Ohio, grandchildren Megan Newlove Triggs (Lloyd), Sarah Newlove Zmarzly (Tony), Andy Newlove (Megan), Lindsay Rutkus (Mark), Missy Jakubowski (Jon) and Rebekah Benschoter (Jason), great-grandchildren Anthony, Olivia, Jackson, Liam, William, Caroline, Emelia, Benjamin, Judah, Max, Hannah, Sam, Sophia and Levi and niece Ann (Bowers) Yon.

Along with her husband Ross, Norma was preceded in death by her parents and brother Robert Bowers.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday March 29, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 West Wooster St. Pastor Amy Miller will officiate.

Visitation will be held Wednesday March 28, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be given in her memory to The Ross Barr Scholarship Foundation.
