Obituary for Donald Stuhldreier

Born on December 14, 1938 in Omaha Nebraska, to Henry and Dorothy Stuhldreier, he was educated and graduated from Benson High School in 1956. He wrote his online high school newsletter until 2018. Keeping in touch with his classmates meant so much to him. After high school he enlisted in the US Air Force, and became a meteorologist stationed in Arizona during the 1957 Atom bomb tests in the Yucca Flats, and then was stationed at the Paris International Airport, and traveled extensively through Europe until his discharge in 1960. He then took up a career in engineering, embarking on a 60 year career as one of the nations leading injection blow mold designers and was a collaborator in the formation of our nation's plastics grading and recycling industry. He retired in 2016 as Vice President of Starbase Technologies, Pittsfield, MA at the age of 79. He loved what he did for a living but he had many other passions.

He loved American folk art and made hand carved and painted bird and duck decoys, along with making furniture and creating other folk arts. He enjoyed Scouting and was a Scout Master, and was an avid camper who loved hiking, climbing and mountaineering with his family. He loved traveling, and skiing. He had a great love of gardening and feeding the birds. He devoted all of his free time to his family's happiness. He always bought his wife flowers every few weeks just to see her face light up. He was a gentleman to all, and he sure knew how to throw a good party! He was a devoted Nebraska Cornhuskers and New England Patriots fan. Football was his favorite sport. He, like his famous football relative Harry Stuhldreher of Notre Dame University, was Quarterback for his High School football team, the adorably fierce Benson Bunnies.

He is survived by his loving wife Sharon, of 52 years, his two sons Brett and Christian, his daughter Gretchen, his three grandsons Danny, Tyler, and Caleb and his sister Pam. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, sister Sharon, and son Bart.

A private memorial and blessing will be held in the Spring at the home of the family. A memorial stone will be erected in his memory where his ashes will be spread under a new Rose of Sharon shrub to be planted in his garden.

Arrangements entrusted to the Peinert Dunn Funeral Home in Waterville, Ohio.
