Obituary for Mary L. Myerholtz

Mary Louise (Dickerson) Myerholtz, 95, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away Tuesday November 6, 2018. She was born August 25, 1923 in Detroit, Michigan to Helen Louise Godsey and Charles Raymond Dickerson.

She married Myron John Myerholtz on October 29, 1938 in Columbia City, Indiana when she was just fifteen years old. She attended many elementary schools as her family moved often, and she married before completing high school. However, she always valued education. She shared that the people who influenced her the most were her mother, her Grandma Polley, and a teacher, Mrs. Hammersmith. “They all taught me that reading was the most important thing to learn. It opens up the world to you.”

When asked what she had wanted to be when she grew up, she replied “a tap dancer and a singer-movie star. At one time I wanted to be a teacher. But most of all, a mother!” She became the beloved mother of seven children who were the center of her world. Faith and her belief in God were always very important to her. The family moved to Bowling Green in 1947 and were members of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church for over 65 years.

At various times, Mary worked as a cook to boost the family income. She was employed by the Big N Department Store in Bowling Green, Ohio and served as a cook in several BGSU Sororities and Fraternities as well as Crim Street School. She always enjoyed the friendships of those she worked with and those she served.

Mary’s hobbies included cross-word puzzles, needle-work, reading, singing to her children and grandchildren, drawing, and writing. Several of her articles were published by Bend of the River Magazine. She also wrote a pamphlet, “Memories of Days Gone By,” with her remembrances of childhood and stories of her ancestors. In later years, she loved to shop at garage sales and find trinkets to give to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Since the death of her husband, Myron, she has met weekly for lunch at Frisch’s restaurant on Wednesday’s with any of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephew who were available. Often the group numbered in the double-digits.

Mary has given so much love to all who knew her. Her advice to all of us, “always love your family. Try never to go to bed angry. Have faith in God. Look for good things to happen. Most of all be Happy.”

She will be missed.

She is survived by her sons Myron David Myerholtz (Nancy) of Waterville, Daniel James Myerholtz (Diane) of Bowling Green and Arthur Dennis Myerholtz (Judy) of Bowling Green, daughter Janet Kay Collins, daughter-in-law June Asmus Myerholtz, sisters Shirley Jean Gorsuch of Florida and Juanita Florence Emerson of Perrysburg. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 39 great-great grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Myron, daughters Louise Anne Noon and her husband Larry Noon, Caroline Elizabeth Asmus and her husband William Asmus, son Raymond Henry Myerholtz, brothers Frank, Richard, William and Charles, sister Katherine Wilhelm and grandson Alan David Myerholtz.

Visitation will be held on Sunday November 11, 2018 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Dunn Funeral Home, located in the Historical District of Bowling Green at 408 West Wooster St. Her funeral service will be held Monday November 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 315 South College Dr. Bowling Green, Ohio 43402. Pastor Rob Spicer will officiate. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bowling Green. Additional visitation will be held Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m.
