Obituary for Ronald L. Shaner

Ronald L. Shaner, 77, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away Wednesday May 1, 2019. He was born July 22, 1941 in Bowling Green to C. Louis and Betty (Hughes) Shaner. Ron married his high school sweetheart Scotty Huntington and she survives in Bowling Green.

Ron was a 1959 graduate of Bowling Green High School where he was very active in athletics, playing football, basketball and track & field. He then went on to attend BGSU. Ron held the record for most homeruns for Bowling Green Little League baseball. While in school, he was a paperboy for the Toledo Blade. When Ron was a senior in high school, he wrote and delivered the youth sermon at First Christian Church.

He worked as a millwright for Dana Corporation. Ron loved to golf and was a member of the Bowling Green Country Club. He enjoyed watching Ohio State Football, cooking for his family, and took special interest in and studied antique and collectible cars. He was a great dancer and loved listening to music- especially Elvis. His family will miss his genuine smile. He could often be heard telling others that “Life is Good” and felt it was his task in life when out and about to make people smile.

Along with his wife Scotty, Ron is survived by his children Missy (Jude) Hurin of Reno, Nevada, Mike Shaner of Lambertville, Michigan, Melanie (Michael) McColgan of Reno, Nevada, Amy (Jason) Gorr of Ottawa Lake, Michigan and David (Mindy) Shaner of Highland Ranch, Colorado and step-sons Allen G. (Leanne) Holder of Terra Haute, Indiana and John (Shiela) Holder of Madison, Mississippi. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren with one on-the-way as well as his sisters Nancy (Dick) Otley of Bowling Green and Jeanne (Bruce) Wilson of Comstock Park, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his grandson Jonathan Gilbert Mendoza.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday June 15, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at The First Presbyterian Church, 126. South Church St. A Celebration of Life Gathering will follow the service at The Bowling Green Country Club from 11:00 a.m.- 1:30 p.m. Burial will be private for the family at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bowling Green. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Dunn Funeral Home in Bowling Green.
