Obituary for Arnold J. Brown

Arnold Joseph Brown, age 82 of Whitehouse, OH passed into the arms of his Lord on Monday, February 5, 2018 after a long battle with alzheimer’s disease and other health issues. Arnold, the second of 3 children, was born in Toledo, OH on January 25, 1936 to Leland and Viola (Eiden) Brown. He graduated from Waite High School in 1954 and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 – 1960.
Arnold married Betty Perry in 1988. He was employed by Libbey-Owens-Ford for 33 years and retired in 1988. Following retirement, Arnold assisted his wife, Betty, in the operation of her campground until 2004. Betty’s Country Campground was originally built by Eugene and Betty Perry in 1977 in Whitehouse.
Arnold was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, OH. Arnold and Betty maintained a home in Whitehouse and also in Kenansville, Florida, which was the vacation retreat for the family and friends. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed his outdoor expeditions. He was famous for his fried fish and alligator. Arnold loved spending his days on his boat in Florida or on Lake Erie, and was always eager to take his family and friends fishing with him. He was known as a jack-of-all-trades, and could always be found in his pole barn creating, building, or fixing things. Arnold also loved to do oil paintings and wood carvings. He always looked forward to the large family gatherings, or sitting on the sidelines of his grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sports and school activities. Arnold was also known as the happy-go-lucky-guy because he could always strike up a conversation with anyone and had a contagious laugh and big smile.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Arnold is survived by, Betty, his wife of 30 years; 3 children from a former marriage: Deanna (John) Brown-Allen, Dana Brown, Devlon Brown-McEwen; 4 step-children: Patricia (Douglas) Perry-Freeman, Steven (Gail) Perry, Vicki (Eric Reimer) Perry, Shelly (David) Perry-Sawicki; 4 grandchildren;10 step-grandchildren;13 step-great-grandchildren; brother, Alfred (Betty) Brown; sister,MaDonna Brown-Sterger; and his mother-in-law, Evelyn Lybarger. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother-in-law, Leslie John (Becke Hickman) Earnest.
Visitation will be 3:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home, Whitehouse, OH. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 12, 2018 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 14010 South River Road, Grand Rapids, OH 43522. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Grand Rapids, OH.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
