Obituary for Marvin W. Dunn

Marvin W. Dunn, beloved brother, uncle and friend, 87, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away Saturday February 17, 2018 with his loving family by his side. He was born October 13, 1930 in Henry County, Ohio to the late Frank P. and Troas C. (Adams) Dunn.

A lifelong resident of Bowling Green, Marv was a pillar of the Bowling Green community as an educator at Bowling Green High School, funeral director at Dunn Funeral Home and real estate agent for Newlove Realty. He was a 1952 graduate of Bowling Green High School and a 1963 graduate of Bowling Green State University.

Marv served our country proudly in the United States Navy. He was assigned to Fighter Squadron Thirty-One and was primarily stationed in Sanford, Florida.

He majored in secondary education at BGSU and taught American Literature at Bowling Green High School for many years. While teaching at BGHS he served as the Student Activities Director and was extremely active in high school hockey.

Marv was an integral part of the early success of the Bobcat Hockey Program. He was the commissioner of the Northwest Ohio Hockey Conference for twelve years and the manager of the Ohio State Ice Hockey Tournament for eight years. He was a member of the Bowling Green Blueliners where he served on the booster board for many years. The legacy he leaves on this program is second to none and he will be fondly remembered by the countless number of athletes, parents and coaches he touched in the Bobcat Hockey Program.

He was a licensed funeral director, playing an essential role in the founding and opening of Dunn Funeral Home in Bowling Green in 1975 with his brother Donald E. Dunn and nephew Stephen C. Dunn.

In his later years he obtained his real estate license and worked for Newlove Realty in Bowling Green. It was here he met and developed friendships that he cherished dearly. He was a member of the Toledo Board of Realtors, the OAR and the NAR, the Wood County Board of Realtors where he served as the continuing education director. Marv was inducted into the Wood County Board of Realtor’s Hall of Fame in 2011.

He served on the governing board of the Summerfield Condominiums in Bowling Green where he was past president and jokingly crowned “Mayor of Summerfield.” He was a member of the BGSU Falcon Club, BG Kiwanis, Bowling Green Country Club, the former Elks Lodge #818, Bobcat Booster Club and Trinity United Methodist Church in Bowling Green.

Marv dedicated himself to building and maintaining relationships. A stranger to few, he genuinely cared for and invested in those he came in contact with. His bright smile and selfless heart will be sorely missed but fondly remembered by all of his family and friends.

He is survived by his brother Richard G. Dunn of Van Wert, Ohio, sister-in-law Marian Dunn of Bowling Green, Ohio nieces and nephews Stephen (Becky) Dunn, Kevin Dunn, Linda Dunn, Jan (Norm) Jones, Judy (Larry) Reynolds, Susie Dunn (John Dias), Tim Dunn (Carla Frayer), Tom Dunn (Jenny Kuhl Hansen), Lynn (Mike) Hock, Debbie (Rick) Turner, Brian (Valori) Dunn, Lisa Dunn, Troy (Pam) Dunn, Mary Franklin, Kelly (Thomas Jr.) Patton and Amy Conrad, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
