Obituary for Johnie McSurley

It is with deep, and heavy sadness that we announce the death of Johnie “John” McSurley, who passed on April 14th, 2018 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. John was born in Drift, KY but lived in Whitehouse, Ohio for most of his life. John was a self-made man owning and operating McSurley TV & Appliance from 1954 through 1997. He spent the majority of his free time enjoying the game of golf. He was always active and during his life he was instrumental in helping build our local communities by bringing toll free telephone service to the area. John was a founding member of the Waterville Golf League at Riverby Hills and the Fallen Timbers Family Recreation Center. He was an active member of the Anthony Wayne Toastmasters and Waterville Chamber of Commerce as well as many other organizations. He was a coach for the Waterville Little League and Scout Master for Whitehouse Boy Scout Troop 97. It was the simple things around him in life that he never took for granted, commenting daily how fortunate and thankful he was. Above all, John was absolutely devoted to his wife Betty Bee for 73 years who preceded him in death. He was a supportive and loving father, grandfather and was a man of strong faith. He is survived by his son, John Michael (Betty Lou), daughter Deborah (Neil), son Robin (Beth), daughter Rachel and son Patrick; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; his sister Wilma Faye Martin and his step-brother Robert Combs.
