Obituary for Marjorie "Marge" Miller

Marjorie J. “Marge” Miller, 85, of Bowling Green, Ohio passed away February 3, 2018 after a sudden, brief illness. She was born May 10, 1932 in Maroa, Illinois to Virgil and Margaret (Eads) Leach. She married Edmund J. “Jack” Miller in 1961 and he preceded her in death in 1968.

Marge received her Bachelor and Master degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She began her career as a Cooperative Extension Service Home Economics agent in Jersey County, IL. She then worked as a researcher at Proctor & Gamble in Cincinnati before beginning teaching at the University of Cincinnati. In 1973, Marge moved to Bowling Green and taught textiles and fashion merchandising at BGSU until her retirement in 1996.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bowling Green, a board member of the BGSU Retirees Association, and active in many other groups including the Wood County League of Women Voters, and King’s Daughters and Sons. She was a long-time volunteer at the Wood County Hospital, Bridge Hospice Care Center, and had delivered wheeled meals.

Marge was very active in the Bowling Green community, whether attending City Council meetings, local concerts, BGSU sporting events, or doing daily water aerobics. She had a passion for travel and loved spending time with her family and friends.

Marge touched so many people with her joyful spirit and generosity. She will be deeply missed as a mom, grandma, sibling, aunt, friend, neighbor, volunteer, and community member, and by the hundreds of students whose lives she impacted. She will be remembered by all those who knew her as living life to the fullest.

Marge is survived by her daughter Margaret Miller (Ernesto Stein) of Potomac, Maryland and son Ed Miller (Jennifer Phillips) of Deerfield, Illinois, brother James (Mary) Leach of Maroa, Illinois, sister-in-law Shirley Leach of Wichita, Kansas, grandchildren Katherine Stein, Emily Stein, Julia Stein, George Miller, Lewis Miller, and Elliot Miller, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters.

In line with her wishes, there will be no services. Dunn Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Marge’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
